Against all odds, Nintendo recently announced that a new Smash Bros is coming to the Switch before the end of 2018. Now that the dust has settled on this mic drop of an announcement it got us thinking. Super Smash Bros has always had one of the biggest casts in beat 'em up history, cameos aren't something new to the title and in its previous incarnations has hosted Solid Snake, Cloud and Bayonetta just to name a few. That got us scratching our noggins. Who would we really like to see in the upcoming Switch instalment of this beloved franchise?
6. Steve (Minecraft)
Minecraft is a title that could have been made by Nintendo; in aesthetic only. Think about it. A hardcore survival horror where one lone survivor of a post apocalyptic landscape has to fend off malnutrition, mutant creatures and the hordes of undead. Steve is a hardened badass, give him a diamond sword and he could royally mess up any character he is pitted against. Watch out Metal Mario, he's coming for you! As much as I'm joking, when taken into consideration with the rest of my list, this is the most likely to actually happen.
5. General Grievous (Star Wars)
Do Disney not own Nintendo yet? They don't? Huh, go figure. Maybe this won't happen then. Nevertheless, General Grievous would be a perfect fit for Smash Bros. The best characters to play are melee fighters, especially ones with swords. Do you know what's better than one sword? Two. Do you know what's better than two swords? Four. Do you know what's better than four swords? FOUR LIGHTSABERS! With his unstoppable fighting style he'd be a force to be reckoned with.
4. The Arbiter (Halo)
The Arbiter, a religious zealot that got his faith kicked square in the jewels and was unleashed on the universe with a drive to get even. You might not think that religious revenge is a good fit for family friendly Nintendo; hear me out! Fanboys are like religious zealots. They lap up the good and lash out at the bad. During Nintendo Direct, the internet was ready with pitch-forks at the over indulgence of Splatoon. That was until the poorly acted, 'but WAIT, there's more!' moment when Smash Bros was unveiled. The Arbiter is on your level. He's also got a cool energy sword.
3. Future Trunks (Dragon Ball Z)
Not only is he a badass sword wielder but he's also a Saiyan warrior, which means he's got all the energy projectile abilities that come with that. Oh, and he's also super strong without having to use anything but his fists. He can also fly. So, maybe Saiyans' might be a little too overpowered for Smash Bros. Who would you combat him with...other than GOD? He's also my favourite character from Dragon Ball, despite his lame name.
2. FemShep (Mass Effect)
Is there anything cooler than a human special forces hero dude who has saved the galaxy, despite all the odds, more times than he cares to mention? Sure there is; that hero being a lady dude. I always played as FemShep as I thought she was more kickass then her male counterpart (who seemed like someone who would have beaten me up at school and been good at physical education). Not only is FemShep a weapons expert but she also has that holographic blade thing for close quarters combat. Biotic abilities also mean projectile based attacks.
1. Shadow the Hedgehog (Sonic Adventure 2)
The cooler version of Sonic the Hedgehog who comes in black with red and white trim. With his brooding face the opposition would frankly be too intimidated to approach him. He's fast enough to evade attacks and can close the gap quickly to cause burst damage. His special ability could be a stolen Dr Eggman invention so his special could range from a stolen meck with turrets to a thermonuclear device. What have you got?
