It happened, the meteor has landed and has caused quite a bit of chaos for the open of Season 4. It didn't hit Tilted Towers as speculated by ourselves and about 98% of the internet, which goes to show you that you shouldn't trust everything you read online kids! That being said the things that the event has shook up and the new feel and content inclusions going in to Season 4 have me pretty pumped for the game as there's more reason to return to the island than ever before. What exactly am I looking forward to, because it isn't winning...
Some things go without saying. Having purchased the Battle Pass there are a whole host of new challenges and cosmetic items to unlock, this season being focused on Super Heroes and I'm really feeling this new theme and the amount of well executed build up it was given by Epic. Dusty Depot took the brunt of the damage caused by the comet and has turned into Dusty Divot, a giant crater and a shady closed off government excavation site similar to the one that surrounded the crater caused by Mjolnir during the original Thor movie. The whole island is peppered with smaller impact sites and around each are little consumable crystals that spice up combat by giving you moon-like jump height and fall damage protection powers.
As the season goes on it's been stated that the map will continually evolve and it's my hope that we will see more and more of what happens due to prolonged exposure to the radioactive meteor. I'm expecting more government style checkpoints/bases, corruption in the environment from the comet and more super hero type locations. At the moment the one of note that I really like is the Avengers Style ready room under the mansion in the East of the map. An evolving map is not a new concept as new locations were constantly added during Season 3 (Lucky Landings to name just one), however I'm hoping for a more narrative style arc to the expansion this time out.
As well as new skins and locations relating to the meteor from outer space, I'm also hoping for super hero influenced weaponry and gadgets to add a new edge to combat and competitive play and that as the season drags on there will be more emphasis on heroes vs villains as more 'people' are exposed to radiation and pick a side.
