Hajime Tabata, the game director of Final Fantasy XV, is heading up a new studio for Square Enix, entitled Luminous Productions, based in Tokyo. They're not working on Final Fantasy XVI, so don't get your hopes up, they've got much different plans in mind. A statement from Square Enix states that the new studio will not only be concerned with making AAA games, it'll also be on the cutting edge of new and unique entertainment experiences. What could that mean? Destination based VR mayhaps? Only time will tell, but if you want the inside track, they're hiring.
As with any new studio, there is a vacuum of roles to fill (including Scenario Writer, a vacancy in video games as rare as rocking horse crap and one I'd go for if I thought I had any hope in hell of getting it). As well as this, there are roles for 3D Character and Environment Artists, Game Designers, Project Managers and many more. All vacancies to be filled can be found on their new site here.
As well as looking to fill many roles, the core team of the studio is already built up of Final Fantasy XV veterans so you can expect your new potential work mates to be well versed with the industry and churning out brilliant gaming experiences. Rumours suggest that Luminous' first project will be spoken about towards the end of Q2 of 2018 so there is a little while to go yet, but hey, it's nearly April already. The website literature and the little information presented by Square Enix in their announcement, seems to suggest that Luminous will not be pumping out standard games, instead aiming to expand upon the 'existing boundaries and conventions of the gaming industry' by bringing 'brand new types of entertainment content to a global audience'.
Tabata also revealed in a 4Gamer round-up article that his team would be working with the next Generation in mind AND on new IP, so we'll probably see the fruits of Luminous Productions on the Playstation 5. Has this piqued your interest enough? Maybe check out the vision of Luminous below to see if this is a work ethic that interests you.
What do you think about this new studio? What kind of title do you expect them to work on for their first project? Let us know if you have applied for any roles and as always, comment below or tweet us @ghoulishent with your thoughts.
