Fortnite has recently added a few new items that if you have taken a little bit of a break from the game, like myself, you really should know before jumping back into the fray. In this article we'll be discussing vending machines, Battle Pass Items AND the prospect of Tilted Towers becoming a steaming radioactive hole in the ground! Buckle into your Battle Bus seats, class is about to begin.
Recently Epic added vending machines to the map. I'm not sure whether these are at random locations every time as I haven't played enough matches to confirm or deny that but it would make sense otherwise camping them would be a rampant problem. At these vending machines you can trade resources for weapons and items and some of the loot on offer is pretty decent. I've seen purple sniper rifles and rocket launches. Of course the resource cost for such a trade can be pricey, the sniper rifle for example cost 400 wood, however this mechanic, I believe, balances the game more.
If you are like me, and don't really build much due to either not being too great at it or just because you are more run and gun, it gives you the option to trade the resources in that you probably won't be using anyway for something you'll actually use. Someone who can build might have a giant fort and a handful of semi-decent weapons, you can buy yourself a rocket launcher and bring them down to your level. Sure, base building aficionados may bemoan the addition of vending machines, but I for one am all for them!
As part of the Battle Pass, a paid season addition to Fortnite that allows you to unlock skins and other cosmetic items, Epic have added a number of challenges which include map items that you should be looking out for too. Although you can climb up the ranks through general play, a quicker way to boost levels is by completing pre-defined challenges. This might be something as simple as Search Inside Five Ammo Crates to Open Ten Chests in Fatal Fields. As part of these challengers you'll soon notice that there are banner locations on top of a lot of peaks that once touched will display your banner icon (as you can see above). You'll need to plant your standard in the summit of ten peaks to complete the challenge, but don't worry, you don't have to do this all in a single match.
There are also several challenges to follow treasure maps found in certain locations and following them to their conclusion will bag you some points to level up, however the conclusions of these treasure hunts can be stumbled upon without a map ever being read. There is currently also nineteen gnomes dotted around the map and you'll need to locate seven to be awarded the challenge and the five battle points that come with it. For up to date week to week challenges check out the Challenge tab before jumping into your next game.
Is it the end for Tilted Towers? Over the passed few months a comet has been seen in the sky that seems to grow closer with every update. Several telescope locations have also popped up leading to theories that one famous location is about to be the victim of debris from outer space. As you can see above, the location of the comet and its heading seems to suggest a Tilted Towers impact, however in that direction is also Shifty Shafts and an empty space between Flush Factory and Fatal Fields. We're either seeing the end of one location or a formation of a complete new one.
One of the theories is that the collision will create a new UFO/Alien based locale. Whether it be a flying saucer or a radioactive bit of rock that little green men poke their heads out of is yet to be seen but an E.T style update would do wonders for the store with the amount of new skins that could be added. Could that be what we are heading towards next season as only 13 days are left of the current one? The current season that contains a large amount of astronaut themed items? Hmmm...
