Tom Holland is easily the best cinematic Spider-Man that there has ever been. Toby McGuire was too old and although his Peter Parker was good I didn't like his Spider-Man. Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker was much too slick and cool but his Spider-Man was spot on. Tom's performance, both in and out of the iconic costume, is perfect and has been well received both in Spider-Man Homecoming and in Avengers Infinity War, but he's a real headache for Marvel and Kevin Fiege. He's got himself in hot water before, and I dare say this won't be the last time, but he's at it again and in BIG way!
For the press circuit Marvel had taken to pairing Tom with the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch so that he could be policed, which is comically adorable. It's a shame that didn't extend to social media though. In an Instagram post from Ace Seattle Comic-Con, Tom apologised to fans that there were no real reveals for the next Spider-Man film yet but did reassure them that it was still happening and he had recently received the script to read. That's all well and good, that isn't really anything he shouldn't share as it's already been announced that another Spider-Man instalment will be coming. The issue came when he subconsciously showed his iPad when talking about the film which revealed to the world the working title, Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Aside from now knowing the title, little else is known about the film other than the rumour that Jake Gyllenhaal may be portraying Mysterio, which if you would have told me that a handful of years ago I would have laughed at, but they pulled off a cool Vulture with Michael Keaton, so what do I know? Due for release on July 5th 2019, Kevin Fiege has confirmed the film will kick off Phase 4 for Marvel.
What do you think of poor Tom's newest gaff? What do you think Far From Home might feature and would you like to see how Jake Gyllenhaal takes on Mysterio? Comment below or tweet us @ghoulishent. Please Marvel, go easy on Tom. He's harmless and doesn't mean it.
